Burn 2’s Champions again!

By David Scott

The 2’s secured back to back promotions yesterday with a 53-15 home victory over Rossendale.

The teams have met 4 times this season with Burn 2’s taking the spoils on 3 out of 4 occasions. The one downside of yesterday’s game was veteran Zac Child sustaining a long-term injury, following a fractured foot and ligament damage. All at BRUFC wish him well for a speedy recovery.

Since the league split the 2’s have now won 7 out 7 and go into the final home game on 27th April against Lymm with the aim of winning all 8 games.

Promotion sees the 2’s entering the Premiership next season, where they will rub shoulders with the likes of Chester, Caldy and Fylde 2’s.

The squad is clearly benefiting from training weekly with the 1’s and credit needs to go to Dino, Tom, Phil and Greg. The club’s policy of trying to retain and develop our younger players also appears to be working well, yesterday’s squad had an average age of just 21, with 13 of the lads having come through the clubs Colts system at some point, which goes to show the work done by the coaching staff at all levels. In recent weeks 5 current Senior Colts have also made the step up to senior rugby.

Credit should also go to team managers, Wayne Thomas and Austin Clarke and James Halliwell who has captained the team for the last two seasons. All have contributed to the success of the team and made it a team that players enjoy playing for.
