CONFERENCE: Winter Classic for u13 and u15 teams at Sheffield

he JLMC have confirmed the second ‘Winter Classic’ event will take place at Ice Sheffield on December 30 & 31 featuring all five Conference sides at u13 and u15 level.

Following the inaugural Classic events in January 2017, and after the success of the u11 Conference Series, the JLMC are keen to repeat the Winter Classic and give u13 and u15 players the chance for additional Conference-level games ahead of the full EIHA Inter-Conference tournament in May 2018.

The action gets underway at 8am on Saturday 30 December with first u13 game. The u15 action picks up at 7.15pm and there are four round robin games in the u15 event before the end of Saturday play around 11.30pm.

New Year’s Eve faces off at 6.45am with the remaining u15 games taking place, coming to a close around 1.30pm allowing all players, staff, volunteers and parents to head home to celebrate the New Year.

All of the action takes place at Bauer Arena, Ice Sheffield and admission for spectators is free.

For those unable to attend but who still want a hockey fix then the games are being webcast by 247.tv, who recently covered the U20 World Championship in Dumfries. To purchase individual games go to www.247.tv/live and search for Winter Classic 2017/18.

Event co-ordinator Gordon Douglas said: “The first Winter Classic was a success giving Conference players the opportunity to play high quality games against similar opposition. When the chance came to repeat it, it was an easy decision.

“It’s going to be a packed schedule with 20 games in a day and a half but the players and staff are used to the hectic timetable of Conference weekend so I’m sure they’ll take it in their stride.”
