Hamlet leave with a point, but rue their luck

By

Both sides struck the woodwork twice and The Hamlet also had a goal ruled out and two good penalty shouts.

For the Dulwich line up visit here

Dulwich will be disappointed not to have left with all three points as they struck the frame of the goal twice, had a goal disallowed for an offside decision against a player other than the goalscorer and two obvious penalties denied; one of them being seen by the referee as an inch outside the penalty area.

Amidst an inconsistent refereeing performance that seemed to look to book players for every foul committed it also became necessary to use substitutions not to try to win the match, or replace injured players, but instead to try to avoid the chances of being reduced to ten men.

It was the home side who dominated the first half chances as they used the strong wind to good effect. Preston Edwards produced an excellent save plunging low to his left after a free kick from halfway lead to a free header on goal.

However, The Hamlet had a great chance to take the lead in the 17th minute. A cross from the left brought Beasant forward to take i,t but it held on the wind and Nathan Green failed to get anything on the cross with the goal at his mercy.

Within a minute the home side went close as this time another header beat Preston Edwards but came back off the bar.

Th majority of the threat from Dulwich was coming down the left and Nathan Green produced a terrific run and cross, but with little aerial threat after the substitution of Dan Thompson following an early head injury, there was only Nyren Clunis trying to get on the end of it.

With seven minutes to half time, the hosts again went close. Preston Edwards spilled an effort that came through a host of players, but he managed to recover and push the ball to safety from the follow up.

Half Time 0-0

With the wind now in their favour, Dulwich were slow to impose them selves on the second half and it was Luque for the home side who threatened first, his effort being blocked.

Dulwich finally created a chance in the 53rd minute when slick passing released saw Dominic Vose drive forward but Beasant tipped his effort over the top. For The Beachboys it was Luque who looked most likely to create something and he forced Preston Edwards into another good low stop in the 65th minute .

Hamlet debutant Sol Pryce was then foiled by a fine save from Beasant asa low cross from Dominic Vose bobbled across the penalty to Pryce just ten yards out; the keeper pushing his effort out witha strong hand.

It was the final ten minutes that were to bring a lot of the drama. In the 83rd minute Quade Taylor got on to a loose ball just inside the penalty area and was sent crashing down by a tackle from behind.

The offence seemed both to be just inside the area and a tackle from the last defender, but the referee decided that the free kick should be awarded outside the penalty area. Anthony Cook stepped up and his free kick beat Beasant but came back off the bar.

A minute later, in the 84th minute, a low effort from Nyren Clunis flew past Beasant and struck the post, the ball going behind for a corner off the back of the keeper lying on the ground.

From the corner, Quade Taylor picked up the headed clearance and cut inside but was clearly taken out thigh high by the defender coming across. Once again the referee failed to point to the spot.

If that hadn't already made The Hamlet feel there was an injustice, in the final minute a free kick was floated into the penalty area and Nathan Green made a run from deep to thump a header past Beasant. However, the assistant raised his flag for an offside against somebody that could not possibly have been the goalscrorer.

With the game in stoppage time, Th e Hamlet could easily have been left with no points at all when an effort from Abdulla beat Preston Edwards but not the bar, and The Hamlet defence scrambled the rebound clear.
