City U8's 20 - 25 Northern U8's in Festival Final

By

City Reds just lose out in excellent festival with Blues and Golds performing fantastically as well - great day for everybody.

DCRFC Mini’s Festival (1st April 2012)
Three DCRFC U8 teams enter the DCRFC U8 Festival and have shield winners in the cup final!

DCRFC Reds beaten by Northern in the Cup Final 25 v20

Another fantastic festival at DCRFC with 12 U8 teams taking part and a lovely day out for everyone. A huge thank you to the Club members who organised the event and to the parents who made the event happen (car-parkers, match stewards etc) and to all of the other teams for turning up on time, coaching supporting and refereeing matches and participating in the spirit of the competition.

The DCRFC Reds had a tough pool (Sunderland and Novocastrians) and came 1st in their pool by 1 ‘try for’ above Novocastrians (as per the competition rules). They then won their all Durham quarter final (a harsh piece of luck to come up against each other in the early knock-out round, Reds v Blues) and a good semi-final against Morpeth on their road to the final. A well fought final saw the reds take the Cup shield as the runners up to a very strong defensive and attacking Northern. Reds 5 matches. Overall score 125 v 90

The Blues had a good run coming second in their pool to Northern and therefore going into the cup quarter finals. The Blues beat Middleborough in the pool and were beaten by the eventual Festival winners Northern in the pool. However, they got to the quarter finals in the cup and found themselves against the Durham reds – an all DCRFC fixture. After a tough and physical match the Blues were defeated but had played some very strong, attacking and defensive rugby. Blues 3 matches. Overall score 35 v 70

The Golds were drawn in a different pool to the Reds and Blues . the pool included an always strong Tynedale and Billingham. The Golds had two close matches and were only just defeated in the pool matches. The Golds went into the plate semi-final and again another tight match was just lost in the last few minutes to Westoe. The Golds scored plenty of tries, well done. Golds played 3 matches. Overall score 65 v 85.
