Clinical Mountain Cut Down Bradley

By

Mountain hit double figures for the second time this season, as they record a big win over struggling Bradley at The Waens

After progressing to the semi-final of the Queensferry Sports President's Cup last week against Acton, Flint Mountain turned back to league action this weekend and the journey to struggling Bradley Park. Manager Rob Marshall made two changes for the game, with Alex Millington replacing Keiran Farr in defence, whilst Lee Messham started up front in place of Jimmy McGlone, who dropped to the bench.

Flint Mountain started brightly and looked for an early goal, but couldn't force any clear cut chances in the opening part of the game, whilst Bradley were restricted to fleeting low range efforts, which were well off target. As the half hour mark approached, the building pressure eventually reached breaking point and Flint Mountain took the lead. Sean Williams played the ball through to Jon Edmonds, who got beyond the defence. He got to the byline and his cross found Lee Messham unmarked, and the Mountain striker fired a low shot across goal, hitting the post and finding the net.

The opening goal seemed to have energised the Mountain side, as they doubled the lead less than a minute later. Mark Williams broke up a Bradley attack straight from the restart and passed to left back Dylan Roberts. As the drove forward, he was able to get right up to the penalty area, where he exchanged passes with Jack Aitken. After receiving the ball back, Roberts found himself one on one with the Bradley goalkeeper and he fired past him to double the lead. The quick fire goals seemed to have took the life out of Bradley, as Mountain got a third in a two minute spell. On this occasion, Joey Davies intercepted the ball and drove forward. The centre back managed to get to the byline and played the ball to captain Jake Williams on the edge of the penalty area. Williams controlled the ball and drilled the ball low past the goalkeeper.

Before the half was done, Lee Messham increased the lead as he took full advantage of a freak incident. As Sean Williams delivered a cross towards Messham, the Bradley defender looked set to clear the ball. However, as the ball bounced it bobbled over him and fell to the feet of Messham, and he confidently fired past the goalkeeper.

In the second half, any hopes of a Bradley fightback were quickly extinguished, as Jack Aitken beat two defenders in the penalty area, before knocking the ball past the goalkeeper. Defender Joey Davies then got involved with Mountain's sixth, as he met Sean Williams' free kick into the area, to head past the goalkeeper. With twenty five minutes to go, Williams was then replaced by Jimmy McGlone. However, as McGlone ran onto the pitch, he seemingly injured his knee and could not continue, forcing the Mountain to withdraw him and leave themselves with ten men for the remaining portion of the game. The lack of an additional man didn't seem to halt Mountain's progress as Jack Aitken drilled another low shot into the net with twenty minutes to go.

Once again, Mountain showed their ruthlessness as Jon Edmonds got in on the scoring, just a minute after Aitken bagged his brace. In the penalty area, Edmonds found enough space to get a shot away, which flew high into the net. Edmonds quickly grabbed his second of the game, as he knicked in ahead of the onrushing goalkeeper to head past him into the corner. Jack Aitken completed his hat trick with ten minutes left, as, finding himself in space outside the penalty area, he unleashed a vicious strike which flew past the goalkeeper and into the corner. Jon Edmonds was not to be denied his own hat trick late in the game, as he raced through on goal, taking on two defenders and smashing the ball high into the top corner to complete the rout.

Flint Mountain take a break next weekend, with a free week whilst other teams catch up, before another top of the table clash with Acton the following week.
