By Carl Brown

Captain James Howard has spoken out about the start of the 2017 campaign.....

“The start to 2017 has almost mirrored that of 2016 but the Skipper remain upbeat” James Howard

"The start of this season feels very similar (to 2016). 3 games in, two loses away to Cutsyke and Ossett" He added "We also had issues raising a 17 despite good numbers at training every week."

Last Saturday saw a loss to a physical and determined Cutsyke Raiders, who were well worth the win. However, many have said that this was the best performance the Akkies had put in so far in 2017 as praise was heaped on the reduced squad of 15 who stepped up on the day.

The start to 2017 has almost mirrored that of 2016 where the Akkies ended up Divisional Champions. With that in mind he skipper remains upbeat.

"This fills me with confidence as we went on a fantastic unbeaten run to romp to a league title win."

The Akkies travel to face the Pirates of Scarborough on Saturday 13th May, looking to gain a first win "on the road" on 2017.
