LEEK RUFC COMMUNICATION

By Michael Whitehouse

As Leek RUFC looks forward to the 2019-20 season a number of changes are taking place at Esterchem Park.

Two of our long serving committee members are stepping down from duty.
Director of Rugby, Neil Edge, has stepped down from his role after more than a decade of fantastic service.

The club wishes to thank Neil for all the years he has devoted to the role that he grew which also included working closely with the wider school community and introducing rugby where none could be found. Under his stewardship the club has achieved many great things and he has laid the base for a successful future.

Neil will, of course, remain a valued playing member and continue to coach the U13 team alongside other coaching colleagues.

In addition, the club says farewell to Hugh Williams who is retiring from his position as Grounds Chairman after 19 years in the job. Hugh’s knowledge and commitment in managing the grounds that we are all proud of has been fantastic and we thank him for the long years of service. He has always been a loyal sponsor of the club and we still hope to see him watching the 1st team games this season and beyond.

Luke Hardern steps down as 1st team captain after a 2 year stint which has seen the lock juggle a tough work schedule and playing for the British Police with total commitment to the senior side. The club thanks Luke for his leadership and whoever is the next captain, Luke’s experience will be an invaluable help.

We must also say a big thank you to Bev Needham who has written and co-ordinated material for our 1st team match day programmes in recent years. She is stepping down to spend time with her family and we are keen to hear from anyone who wishes to take over this role.

The club has retained head coach Lee Pickles with support of Chris Mudd as his assistant coach.
Colts coach, Jack Jones, has been brought into the wider coaching set up to help deliver the all important colts to seniors transition under the leadership of Lee.

This group, along with senior players, will form the playing strategy and be encouraging all players to start the training programme early so we can hit the new league season on 14th September with a bang.

Any new players you know wishing to join the club please ask them to attend our training sessions or call Tony Hine, the membership secretary, on 07970 961101 for more details.

Pre season training is starting shortly with an informal fitness session next Tuesday 2nd July at 7pm.
Come along and enjoy the run out. No pressure!

On Tuesday 9th July, there will be a general players meeting at the club starting at 7pm. There will be a food and drink offer but it is important to come along and hear from the coaching staff what the plans are for the coming season.

From Thursday 11th July, training will take place at the club on every Tuesday and Thursday between 7-9pm.
We would ask you to keep viewing the club website and Facebook page for further updates as social events are getting planned for the coming season

Reminder
If you wish to hire the club house for a private function please contact Caroline Mellor on 07976 595693. Members discount applies.

We look forward to continuing to grow and develop what is widely regarded as one of best in the county
Have a great summer
