Liskeard-Looe lose on their travels

Last Saturday for the twentieth round of the Cornwall/Devon league The Lions travelled to third placed Bude and made four changes to the squad that had played so well against Honiton the previous week; Sam Chapman replacing Ben Kitto at inside centre, James Rogers onto the wing in place of Ieuan Evans, who switched to full back in place of Jordan Smith, with Ben Palmer and Cian Goldsmith coming onto the bench for Sam Winfield and Phil Mutton respectively.
The first points were on the board in the twelfth minute when the home side scored a converted try in the corner, despite good defence. Liskeard came back at the home side and were awarded a penalty, inside Bude’s twenty-two; Tom Dinnis slotted the kick to make it 7-3. In the twenty-fifth minute Bude scored their second try, also converted, to incre4ase their lead. In the thirty-fourth minute Liskeard were awarded a second kickable penalty, for going over the top at a ruck, and Dinniss duly obliged to again narrow the deficit. Close to half time Bude put in a speculative through kick but from a good chase ball they managed to go over for their third converted try of the afternoon. In the fifty-fourth minute the home side scored their bonus point try wide out this time the conversion attempt fell short. This was quickly followed by a fifth try, also unconverted, by Bude following a series of good offloading passes. In the sixty-seventh minute Liskeard put in some hard work taking the ball deep into the Bude twenty-two and were rewarded with a penalty try to again narrow the deficit. The final scoring chance of the afternoon fell to Bude through the work of their pack following a line-out; this time the conversion attempt hit the woodwork and bounced out and the game finished not long after with the score-line at 36-13. Although Liskeard had played well at times they had been beaten by a good side that had shown why they are in the promotion race
