Welcome to the 2018/19 Season

By Nav Gill - Webmaster

A letter from our Chairman to welcome in the new season, plus details on the AGM, subs and volunteering.

Welcome to the new season and hope you are looking forward to playing for and supporting our MHC teams this year!

With another successful Hockey Fest under our belt as the season opener and the prospect of some exciting times ahead of us this season please, see below some updates on some key start of season information.

AGM
Our 114th AGM is being held at the Clubhouse on Friday 28 September 2018 starting at 19:30. Note this date is a change to the previously issued notice.

All members and affiliates are invited to attend. It is your chance to meet the management committee and understand more about how the club operates but more importantly your opportunity to ask questions and discuss how we are as a club.

Further information about the AGM and the proposed agenda can be found in the news pages of our website or by clicking this link - MHC AGM 2018

One of the important parts of the AGM is the election of officers on the management committee and other volunteers that are vital to the running of the club and its’ activities, more on this below.

Subs
Annual subscriptions are now due for all adults and colts with an early bird discount for those that sign up before 30 September. After this date the subs will go up.

It’s disappointing to note that last season we had a surprisingly high number of players who failed to pay any subscription. The impact of this affects everyone in the club so the committee would be grateful if you can remember to sign up and pay your subscriptions for this season as soon as possible!

As in previous seasons our main adult subscriptions are an all in one offer that includes all match fees which you can pay as a lump sum upfront or by monthly installments. We also provide a reduced fee option that allows you to play five matches if you can’t commit to a whole season. Full details of this seasons subscription options are here - MHC Subscriptions

Please talk to us about discounts for qualified Level 1 and 2 Coaches or family membership.

Coaching
Paul Loudon continues in the key role as the Director of Coaching covering the men’s, ladies and colts sections and will provide coaching support for a number of the other men’s teams.

We’re pleased to confirm that Lee Pettifer and Colin James will again be leading coaching for the Men’s section following last years successes. In addition, we are pleased to announce that Mark Stuart-Thompson as Ladies 1st team coach alongside Phil Roper who will once again be head coach for the Ladies 2nd team.

Training times for adults teams are as per least seasons, Tuesday for Men’s and Wednesday & Thursday for the Ladies’ teams. Training times for the Colts teams can be found at the bottom of this article.

Volunteering
MHC wouldn’t be MHC without the people who spare some of their time to help keep the club going be that on the management committee, as captains, coaches or parent helpers for example. We are always looking for people to help out with all aspects of running the club. If you have time to spare (even if it is an hour on an ad hoc basis), then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

At present we are keen to hear from people who would be willing to help and do need urgently need assistance with the following:
Colts coordinator/manager – we need someone to assist with overall organisation and coordination of the training schedule and fixtures for the Colts section.
Men’s Section Captain – work with each men’s team captain to coordinate all aspects of playing and coaching for the Men’s teams within the Club
Captain Men’s Magician (3s) – organise the team weekly to fulfil league fixtures including team selection, assign umpires and some general admin
Secretary – to assist with general club administration and regular committee meetings.
Social secretary / coordinator(s) – to help organise club social events to bring the players, officials, parents and supporters
Umpiring - we all rely on umpires for our games to go ahead and we need to ensure that we have enough volunteers to cover everything, so if you are qualified umpire or willing to give it a go to help out your team mates then please get in touch.

My thanks go out to all those who currently volunteer their time to support to the club and to those willing to help out this season!

As a final note, the management committee and I wish you all the very best the season ahead and here’s hoping the summer’s fair weather holds out a while longer!
