After a slow start Mellor U12's cruise to another convincing win

By

Another great team effort against a young Stockport Team

> > So the news from the manager was this shouldn’t be too tricky a game. Stockport were having to put out a relatively inexperienced team with players spanning from years 4 - 8 (one with special dispensation).
> > The game started well in difficult conditions, Juergen Klopp would definitely have had something to say about the wind. Mellor had 5 shots on target without reply, but their keeper appeared to be well up for the game and pulled off many a fine save.
> > Eventually Mellor took the lead through Miles P assisted by Charlie and it looked like normal service had been resumed. But then the unthinkable happened, our defence looked rattled, Fredrick’s distribution was uncharacteristically poor and they were all making unnecessary mistakes at the back? Stockport equalised and even worse took the lead making it 2-1. What do managers know eh, it looked like Mellor had a real game on their hands here!?!
> > Thankfully the nerves settled and Miles Q equalised after a superb solo run. It was still a close game with end to end stuff. Fredrick had his eye back in and pulled off a couple of fine saves to keep honours even. Then James K edged us in front after an assist from Ellis. The turning point of the first quarter came when Sammy did very well to pick up the ball, leaning full stretch over the half way line to stay on side. He then went on a fine solo run finished off with a great goal, he scored again not long after to make it 2-5 at the end of the first quarter.
> > Remember the earlier question, what do managers know? Well it turns out they know quite a lot actually. That was the end of the game as a meaningful competition. Mellor started to play really well as a team and their greater experience and the age difference between the teams started to show. We added 5 more goals in the second quarter without reply and everything appeared more normal, the conversation on the side lines returned to whether Stu’s muffin was moist enough?
> > The second half was a repetition of the second quarter, Mellor scored a further 12 goals without conceding any, in fact the team were so dominant in the final quarter Fredrick didn’t have a single save to make.
> > A couple of second half highlights were Theo getting himself a goal and Ellis breaking free of two determined Stockport defenders to score an individual goal. I think the loudest cheer of the day went up when Seb finally found the back of the net. In a wonderful display of team spirit, the boys had clearly decided it was his time to score. Unselfishly our attackers started passing to him every time we went forward, he went close a few seconds earlier and then added his name to the scoresheet much to everyone’s joy.
> > All in all a great team performance on a particularly unpleasant cold and windy day. Man of the match was undoubtedly their keeper. It seems strange to say when you have won 2-22, but he pulled off a number of outstanding saves.
> > Away to Cheadle next week for what our illustrious manager says is going to be a much closer match.........who after today would argue with our manager, certainly not me?!?!
> >
> > Match stats show a great team performance
> > 5 goals for Sammy (1 assist)
> > 3 goals for Miles P (2 assists) and Eddie
> > 2 goals for James K (1 assist) and Finn (2 assists)
> > 1 goal each for Miles Q (1 assist), Theo, Ellis (1 assist), Jacob, Seb and Charlie
> > 1 assist for James S
> >
> > Well done boys!
