Once again Mellor welcomed Stockport for what promised to be an exciting fixture as is usuall against such a tough opposition.
This was a very special fixture for the Mellor boys as it was the first game following the passing of our close friend Amy who we tragically lost earlier in the week. The match was attended by her parents and a fitting tribute took place prior to the start of the game with both teams and all the parents lining up for a brief speech by Martin Mochan followed by a round of Applause in honour of our friend.
The game started as expected with both teams fighting hard to get the first goal. This fell to Jamie who opened the scoring for Mellor. Stockport soon responded with a goal of their own, before Josh made it two for Mellor. A further goal for Stockport put the teams back on an even footing at the end of the 1st quarter.
The second quarter didn’t go so well for Mellor with Stockport’s number 21 scoring a great goal before 3 more gave them a 6 -2 lead at the end of the 2nd quarter. No goals for Mellor!
Mellor started to find their feet again in the 3rd quarter. The defence were starting to get to grips with the Stockport attack and Ned made a couple of critical saves. Joey made a couple of good runs as did Ollie who scored a great goal following some good movement and some great technique from the Mellor attack. The 3rd quarter ended with Mellor closing the gap. The quarter ended Stockport 8 Mellor 5.
Mellor continued to put some good moves together and some great passing started to put pressure on the Stockport opposition who started to look a less confident than earlier in the game. It wasn’t enough though and although Mellor scored again, Stockport found the net twice and it was all over.
As usual when we play Stockport it was a great game of Lacrosse to watch, competitive and feisty with some good lacrosse played.
