Millom 14-24 Silloth

Millom produced a spirited performance against the inform Silloth on Saturday.
Millom started the game with a strong breeze at their backs and tried to use this to their advantage by playing a territorial game. The Silloth defence showed great resolve and Millom were unable to capitalise on the helpful conditions and went into the break trailing by 7 points to nil. Silloth started the second half promisingly and extended their lead to 14 points after good work in the centre of the park enabled quick ball to moved to the backs who managed to get round the outside of Millom to score. Millom did not give uo though, and managed to get their pick and drive game working well to establish good field position. A penalty try was awarded to the hosts after several indiscretions at scrum time deep in the Silloth 22.
Another Silloth score, this time unconverted pushed the Silloth lead to 12 points. This was reduced to 5 as Millom’s dominance at the scrum earned them another penalty try. The game was set up for a grand stand finish until Silloth sealed the victory with a bonus point 4th try with only 2minutes to go. Millom will take plenty of positives from the performance, Danny Redhead was voted as Man of the Match but other noteworthy performances were from Kyle Murphy, Ian Cummings and Jason Metcalf.
