Generosity Wins the Day as Ollerton Unbeaten Run Ends

By

Ollerton's well-received charity game ended in defeat after a poor display.

Report by Will Lavelle.

Ollerton Town’s off-field success on Saturday could not be matched on the pitch as their five-game unbeaten run came to an end after a 2-0 defeat to a Bolsover side who continued their recent resurgence.
Ollerton had enjoyed a good run of form over the Winter period and were looking to continue their climb away from the drop zone whereas Bolsover’s recent reinvention was reaping its reward, Matt Chatfield’s side only losing one of their previous seven after losing their first eighteen fixtures.
The fixture was played in front of a season-high attendance of 164 with Ollerton donating all the gate money to St Joseph’s Catholic Academy in Boughton who were fundraising for a defibrillator. A fantastic £870 was raised on the day whilst further donations since looks set to get the school close to their £1200 target.
Those in attendance saw Ollerton struggle to settle early on and they were unable to retain possession from the opening minute. Both sides struggled in creating a clear opening but Bolsover came the closest to a breakthrough as Daniel Palmer found space in behind the Ollerton defence but fired wide from close range.
Ollerton were able to push higher up the pitch later in the half and slow down the hectic tempo which they were struggling to keep up with. Captain Sam Stretton and top scorer Gav King had half chances near the end of the half but Dave Winter’s men still weren’t putting the Bolsover defence under too much strain.
The visitors started the second half much like they started the first and finally got their reward as Liam Flint converted in the aftermath of a corner to give Bolsover the lead within minutes of the restart.
Bolsover quickly doubled their advantage through Jack Warwick who converted his tenth of the season. Cam Hough’s whipped cross from the right-hand side was met by Warwick and left Ollerton with a mountain to climb to maintain their unbeaten record.
Ollerton fought on after the quickfire double from the visitors and Gav King had the ball in the back of the net but was adjudged to have been offside by the officials. The decision was contested by many of the home support but was upheld by the officials.
Bolsover showed their resolve after going ahead and were able to effectively contain the Ollerton pressure for the remainder of the game and saw out a well-deserved victory with the home side reflecting on a bad day at the office on the field
