The home side kicked off and were met with a solid wall. Two penalties later, Otley were in the opposition 22, Joe Graham opening the Yorkshire account on 9 minutes. The Lincolnshire side levelled the scores after two penalties of their own, opting for a wedge attack five metres from the line with ex-Otley player James Dyson touching down.
The restart was fumbled and Brett Mitchell pounced, the ball going to Joe Graham and finally to Max Johnson who ran in for an easy try. The scrum half was then taken out, the penalty going into the corner. From the line-out, Johnson exploited a huge gap to get his second.
Scunthorpe came back again when Tom Foster kicked deep, and from that line-out Will Scammell burst through the gap.
Elliot Morgan and Henry Roberts pirouetted through the Green’s tackles, Alex Beaumont doing the same before scoring Otley’s fourth on the back of this move with Ben Smith getting his third conversion. Just before half time Scunthorpe scored when Grant Elliott went over which Will Robinson converted.
If the home side thought they were still in the game as they came out for the second half, they were soon dissuaded of this. Paul Petchey got the first of three tries within five minutes, Otley pressure saw him scoring in the corner. Henry Roberts followed this up with a run from his own half and then two minutes later Elliot Morgan’s pass put in Alex Beaumont for his second.
With the game safe and the backs creating havoc, replacement hooker Ben Steele scored in the corner to notch up 50 points on the hour. James Dyson got his second after a quick tap penalty which was converted. However, Otley were still not finished and tries by Elliot Morgan and Paul Petchey, together with Ben Smith’s sixth conversion, wrapped up a convincing win.
The last time Otley scored 60 points away from home was against Dudley Kingswingford at the start of the 2013-14 season (60-7); and the last time they got more than 10 or more tries away from home was against Manchester when they got 15 on 3 October 2009 (3-93).
