Ben too Bright for Brentwood

Cavaliers kicked off, Brentwood made good ground completing their first set, Cav’s worked a good defensive set out of their own half, with industrious runs from their big centre Will James making good metres into Brentwood territory, a great break from the ensuing ruck and some slick passes provided an opportunity for Andrew Anderson to show his pace and he finished off superbly for the 1st try.

There were good set completions by both sides, but strong defence by Cav’s forced a Brentwood knock on; an incisive break from the scrum created an over-lap and Ben Bright finished off a well worked try for Cav’s 2nd try of the game.

Brentwood came back strong with some big carries from their forwards, which created their 1st try of the afternoon., finished off by Brentwood full back Dylan Marshall.
Cavaliers responded with some big carries from Will James and Marcus Reading, often taking three Brentwood defenders to bring them down, with a quick play the ball from the ruck and accurate passing created space for Cav’s next three tries, scored by Ben Bright, Duncan Knox and Josh Brooks.

Brentwood started the 2nd half well, a clever short kick off, caught Cav’s napping which resulted in a Cav’s knock on, this provided the platform for Brentwood to force Cav’s back on their line, a strong run from Brentwood’s Will Hammond, off-loading 2 metres out for Dylan Marshall to score his second try of the day.

Both sides wanted to throw the ball around; Cav’s were forcing a few passes rather than completing their sets, which relieved the pressure from good attacking opportunities. But Cav’s confidence was high and they knew they had the pace out wide. Strong runs from Jamie Whitwell linking well with Sean Baker, continually created space for Cav’s fliers.

The physicality of the game and the heat were starting to play their part and the game started to really open up, with some big gaps appearing in the Brentwood defensive line fully exploited by Will James twice, Sean Baker and Duncan Knox.

It was an encouraging start played with great spirit by both teams.

Cavaliers will forward to another tough encounter against Hemel Stags next weekend.
