The game ended goalless despite a first half that could have seen the Hillians swamped.
Bar started on the front foot and could have taken the lead in the 8th minute but Josh Hutchinson's spectacular overhead kick came back off the bar.
Josh James kept the visitors in the game on 21 minutes as good work down the left from Ben Ward-Cochrane found Brad Sach in the middle only for the Burgess Hill 'keeper to pull off a fine save.
The 'keeper repeated the feat from the resulting corner to deny a Sean Grace header. James Budden almost sent the home side in at half time with a lead but his header from an Andy Lomas free kick flew just wide of the post.
The second half became a duller affair as both sides struggled to fashion any real chances.
The best fell to Potters Bar as Ward -Cochrane again found Sach but the centre forwards header flew just over the top.
