Blues held at home

The blues started the day with the same 11 that started in the 2-1 away victory last week at Emley. With Lee Holmes and Jordan Buckham wth the goals.

The opening minutes were dominated by great combination play by Jason Stokes and Sam Caygill down the left flank with Sam Caygill’s overlapping runs causing the Glasshoughton defence problems.

Early fouls and bookings for Glasshoughton players produced half chances from set plays for the blues. With Josh Gibbons and Dan Gardner both coming up from the back to worry the Glassy backline but not work the keeper.

Good work from Alec Denton to hold off his marker to slide the ball to Jason Stokes to snatch his shot away early to make the keeper make a low save and for the blues to dominate the 1st 20 minutes of the game and have the majority of the possession.

After Jason Stokes shot Glasshoughton made a rare appearance in the blues half to win a corner. Decent ball into the box and the attacker popped up at the back stick unmarked to nod the ball ho,e and put Glasshoughton 1-0 up against the run of play.

The blues continued to dominate possession and Stokes had another shot that then subsequently went over the bar. Jason Stokes continued to pull the strings from the middle of the park and put in a superb cross into the box which Dan Gardner then put his header wide.

Jordan Buckham almost picked out the goal machine Lee Holmes as he nearly flicked a header towards the Glasshoughton goal mouth. The blues were constantly knocking at the door for the remainder of the half but nobody was there to answer. Playing the best half of football they have played all season.

Just before the half ended Josh Gibbons and Callum Fielding came together at the back with a Glasshoughton attacker with the defender taking on an injury and Fielding taking on a yellow card for handball.

Sam Caygill started the 2nd half with a marauding run into the opponents half riding two challenges and getting his cross into the box which the blues attackers just failed to meet.

Alec Denton thought for a second he had the ball in the net from a Jason Stokes cross as his shot lashed agonisingly against the outside netting.

The blues continued to prod and probe the Glasshoughton backline until eventually the breakthrough came on the 83rd minute when Jordan Buckham put the ball into the net for the equaliser from good work down the right hand side from Declan Howe.
