Sheffield U16 team took a full squad of 22 to West Park Leeds for what was always going to be a difficult but winnable game. Sheffield chose to play up the very slight hill in the first half and unusually for them started much the brighter with a try within the first 5 minutes in the corner following a period of sustained pressure.
WPL came back into the game quickly with a strong run from their own half where Sheffield failed to cover well enough so after 10 minutes it was 7-5 to WPL. This proved to be the last time the WPL really threatened the Sheffield line.
Straight from the kick off Sheffield regained possession and worked their way up the field and scored in the opposite corner to take a 7-10 lead.
Another score before half time meant that Sheffield started the second half with a 7-15 score line and a slight down hill for the second half.
WPL kept using their big runners well but Sheffield defended superbly and eventually kept turning the ball over and scoring on the counter attack and with fresh legs for the last quarter Sheffield never looked like conceding another score.
Overall a really good game to watch, bring on Wetherby for the final which will be a tough test.
