Dynamo look to worst Worcester

Fifth-placed Dynamo exuded great fortitude as they defeated Westfields (2-0) at The Dovecote last Saturday after a heavy defeat by Ilkeston Town two weeks previously. Jordan Wilson and Sam Moore were on target for Damion Beckford-Quailey’s side, who have lost in only one of their last five matches. They appear well-placed to end their away day hoodoo - their last victory on the road came in a 4-2 win at struggling Wolverhampton Sporting Community in December - in this clash with Worcester City.

Worcester have had a momentous week. After the filip of an entertaining 3-2 victory away to AFC Wulfrunians, the Worcester City Supporters’ Trust voted to enable community ownership at its annual general meeting. Following several years of cataclysmic mismanagement off the field, there is a palpable hope among the supporters that their beleaguered club will now rebuild in earnest. The club have already moved to secure the signings of Cheltenham Town youngsters Camden Duncan and Tom Chamberlain until the end of the campaign, perhaps with a view to signing them permanently for next season.

On the field, City have struggled of late and lost three of their last five matches. The club had hoped to mount a challenge for the league title this season, but a lengthy fallow spell, combined with the departure of several key players, has left them in 10th place in the Midland Football League table. They have floundered at home in particular, and go into this match hoping to avert a fourth successive defeat in front of their own supporters. They can, however, take some heart from their excellent recent record against Shepshed, having won in each of the last three meetings between the two sides.

When the sides clashed in September, Worcester, despite a red card to Jamie Smith, triumphed 2-1 with Liam Lockett netting the decisive goal at the last. This encounter will likely be as every bit intriguing. Dynamo will look to the in-form Wilson, who has scored five goals in four games since his arrival from Lutterworth Town last month, to help them to a first away win in 2019. Worcester will hope that the experience of Tyler Weir, who netted the opening goal in the reverse fixture, helps their chiefly callow side to an important home victory.
