Super Season for The Young Daniels!

By Richard Curtis

During the 2018/19 season we have operated Football opportunities to over 400 young footballers.

From the Junior Daniels to our Youth under 18s team with approximately 350 players participating in 21 team games.

Unprecedented, we competed with four u16s teams and the Youth team participated in the illustrious FA Youth Cup, defeated by a impressive Matlock Town side at The Zeeco stadium which was a great opportunity to play in the famous cup involving the 92 league clubs at advanced stages. For some of our players playing in the FA Youth Cup will be the biggest game of their careers and should be cherished win or lose.

Our full time academy has provided a successful third year finishing in the top 3 in a very competitive category 2 division. We thank coaches Gary Brown & Chris Palmer for their commitment in providing opportunities for young players (16-18) to develop their game understanding whilst married to an academic programme provided by New College Stamford at our impressive Borderville home.

Pre-season news included Ex Academy player Harry Peasgood signing a club contract spending the season on loan and starting in the last Evostik first team game of the season away at Cleethorpes.

We are also delighted several players at various age groups have moved on to pro club Academies/Centre of Excellence based teams and we wish those players every success enjoying the experience and benefiting from those challenges etc.

Our Futsal sessions remain popular with a current waiting list. Created to help players improve their ball manipulation skills all the players have enjoyed the weekly sessions and are benefiting from working in tight areas under pressure and having to find solutions to retain possession of the ball. We thank coaches Jake Walton and Dan Aust for their time and commitment in developing young footballers.

The Junior Daniels continue to be a real success. Watching approximately sixty 3-6 year olds enjoying football on a Saturday morning in Borderville Sports Hall is fantastic to watch. Thanks to coaches Mark Setchell, Tony Wharam, Jamie and Mark Atkins.

The season has been a real success on the field with numerous teams winning their respective leagues and Cups.

We thank all volunteers and coaches who have offered valuable time in supporting our young players. Without your commitment players would not be able to enjoy the safe fun environment you grant them. Thank you!

Additional thanks to Emma Delmont-Shell for editing the time consuming website www.theyoungdaniels.co.uk and Lynne Edwards as fixture boss aligning all our games at Uffington Road, an arduous task, ensuring no clash of fixtures on home venues.

A great season for The Young Daniels with preparation well under way for the exciting season which will commence soon with the popular Saturday Morning Club for 6-12 year olds and pre-season prep for our teams

Enjoy a short summer break and good luck to all our older lads busy revising for crucial school examinations!!
