Down the years Town have found it hard to pick up points at Chadderton’s Andrew Street and Saturday’s season opener was no different.
On a warm afternoon Town started the better of the two teams and went close through Christy Devlin who brought a good double save from home stopper Jamed Longdin. Nevertheless Town’s push brought its reward when Morgan Onuh slotted home from twelve yards in the 19th Minute taking advantage of some casual play at the back by the hosts.
The lead only lasted four minutes as Chadderton’s Joseph Richards tapped home after Carl Williams had parried a Reece Lyndon drive and from this point there was a momentum shift as the hosts grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.
Carl Williams was extremely busy and excelled in the visitors goal as Chaddy pushed hard for the lead but the Keepers reflexes saw Town reach half time level at 1-1.
Town's half time team talk must have worked as 10 minutes into the second half the visitors regained the lead as a superb pass from Weaver released Sharp who netted with a composed finish.
Again Town didn’t keep the lead long as Chadderton levelled in the 65th minute through Ben Matthews after Town's Sharp had missed a golden opportunity to make it 3-1.
Both sides had chances to win the game but the goal which decided it in Chaddertons favour was a superb cross shot into the top corner by Leon Iluboe to make it 3-2 and see Town venture back to Merseyside with no return for their endeavour.
