Message from the new M&J Chairperson

By Allyn Chetland

The future is bright - its Red & Black

Afternoon all,

Firstly a massive thank you to Andrew Dunstan for his almost 3 years as Chairman of the `Minis and Juniors. Personally, it has been a pleasure working alongside a man who is passionate about the game that we all love.

Also, a massive thank you to Morwenna Dunstan who has not only assisted Andy in his role but took on the somewhat unpleasant role of safeguarding officer. The culmination of this role, ensured that the Club received its Accreditation from the RFU.

Following Andy’s ‘resignation’, I have decided to stand as Chairman, with Hugh Barrett as vice-Chairman.

I know that Hugh holds the same principles and standards as myself in wishing to take the Section forwards.

In addition, we wish a fond farewell to two long-standing committee members in Treasurer, Kerry Gilding and Fixtures Secretary, Mark Petrich. Both have given countless hours of their time to the Minis and Juniors. Thank you from all of us Kerry and Mark.

Neil Buddin has volunteered for the Fixtures Secretary role and we wish him all the best in his role.

The Treasurer position remains vacant and any volunteer with accountancy experience would be appreciated. Please contact myself in the first instance.

Next season will bring lots of exciting challenges as each age group moves forwards in their rugby journey. The coaches will also be undertaking their CPD courses to ensure they are giving the best coaching possible to the players. Keep an eye out for courses locally and at the club.

During the summer, coaches will be aware that certain activities are not allowed under RFU regulations, due to player welfare. These have been posted on fb recently on both this and the coaches groups.

Additionally, we have Bristol Bears community rugby coaches at the club for a 2 day camp on the 5/6th August. Club players get a £15 discount from the full rate. Details will follow again shortly.

With the purchase of Beechgrove from the local council, as a club, we will be looking to raise funds for its development. Details will be posted shortly in this respect and hopefully those of you attending the AGM will get a flavour of what’s planned.

Fundraising needs lots of volunteers and we will be asking all parents and players to come and help. Starting with the Nat West Rugby Force weekend of 22/23 June. An opportunity for us all to help around the club in many ways, whilst the club receives funds from Nat West. Watch this space for more news.

Here’s to a fantastic summer break and looking forwards to a super season of rugby from September.

Best,

Shaun Briddon
