Dockers Concede Two Late Goals to Continue Poor Run

By

Tilbury 1 Bury Town 2 Att 110

Tilbury’s 2-1 defeat at home to Bury Town proved costly for Tilbury manager Joe Keith who left the club after the game in a match they dominated for long periods, as they were unable to convert their deserved lead into a victory.

Tilbury went into the break the better of the sides, with Bury having little goalmouth action and Rhys Madden untroubled.

The home strike partnership of Mitchell Gilbey and George Sykes saw the Dockers go close numerous times before the break.

Half time brought a significant change to the game and a 15 minute delay as referee Ian Bentley, who had received treatment during the first half for a calf injury, was unable to carry on and his assistant Chris Cooper took over in the middle. Tilbury secretary Anthony Mercer donned his kit and replaced him on the touchline.

Bury held the advantage in the opening stages of the second half but gradually Tilbury wrested control of the game from them and took the lead on 66 minutes when captain Jack Carlile hooked the ball home from close range after a cross from Morisi Gelashvilli.

Dockers had a great chance to put the game to bed with ten minutes to go when Mitchell Gilbey was set free but he was unable to convert the chance. In the 81st minute Bury had their first effort on goal, which produced the equaliser. Bury had a counter attack ending with Cemal Ramadan slotting home past Madden’s left hand post.

Tilbury have had little luck this season and another fateful moment went against them just 5 minutes later the referee had seen something no one else in the ground had when awarding a penalty against Abdus Salami who was harshly adjudged to have committed a foul in the box and Ramadan converted the subsequent penalty to the dejection of the home support.

In the final minute Tilbury had a succession of corners, but could not find the net, leaving the Dockers languishing just a place of the bottom of the league.

Joe Keith commented after the game “This is a results business and the club has given me every bit of support I have asked for. I think we have been unlucky in many ways and I think we have a squad who could push on and even a place close to the play-offs, but I can’t complain. “At the end of the day the buck stops with me and I understand the decision. I love this club and I only hope that it can go forward from where we are and I have no grudges. I look forward to seeing the club move up the table and I am sure it will”

Tilbury drop a place to 19th and are back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Maldon & Tiptree.
