Glossop take the wind out of AK's sails
By Tracy Bailey
losing 23-0 away from home
Altrincham Kersal travelled to Glossop for the next round of the Lancs/Cheshire Division 1 League for what was expected to be a tough encounter and which proved to be true. Despite having the lions share of the possession throughout the match Altrincham Kersal never managed to capitalise on it. Glossop fielded a huge pack which played it tight. Given the weather conditions that were icily cold with rain, wind and hail all added to the mix this proved to be the right tactics an the home side went into the break leading by 17 points to nil despite the visitors camping in their 22 and just spilling on the line after a tremendous driven line out.
After the break the Altrincham Kersal pack proved much stronger after a couple of tactical changes and began to really get into the game. However, Glossop slotted a coup of penalties and despite numerous attacks by Altrincham Kersal they never managed to overcome the initial momentum that Glossop obtained from their early first half scores. The game ended 23-0 to Glossop and fair play to them they deserved the win on the day.
Altrincham Kersal have a free weekend next week to regroup before the next round vs Liverpool Collegiate at home on 23rd March.
