Robins comfortable against Seasiders
Ashton ran out comfortable victors with 3 first half goals and a second half penalty proving too good for Whitby Town. With Jack Dyche suspended, Nic Evangelinos returned from injury and John Pritchard moved forward into midfield with Lewis Baines taking over at left back and Sam Sheridan restored to the midfield. The scoring started as early as the third minute as Pritchard’s pass found the overlapping Baines and his deep cross was headed home by centre forward Deane Smalley.
Four minutes later and Baines headed home the second and his first in Ashton’s colours from Liam Tomsett’s corner with the aid of a slight deflection. Ten minutes further on and Dom Smalley went down inside the area with the referee giving a free kick earlier in the move, which Pritchard put straight into Jack Norton’s arms. Nic Evangelinos then saw his effort deflect wide from Deane Smalley’s flick on but the resulting corner was not properly cleared allowing Josh Granite to fire home Ashton’s third.
Junior Mondal rounded Carnell for the visitors with Aaron Chalmers back in time to clear and Dom Smalley then made a marauding run into the area and was just denied by Norton.

On the restart Sam Sheridan’s cross just evaded Deane Smalley at the far post before Dom Smalley’s delivery found his brother firing wide when well placed. Mondal then curled an effort just pat the post and a cross fell to Fryatt who fired over as the Seasiders enjoyed a spell of possession.
Evangelinos then intercepted a pass and put Pritchard clear from where he lobbed his effort over the bar but with 20 minutes left the scoring was complete as Kevin Burgess blocked off Tomsett in the area and the ball was passed to the deserving Dom Smalley who converted confidently from the spot. Ashton could have grabbed another as sub Daniel Mooney cut inside on to his right foot before curling a shot just wide.

Team: Carnell. Dom Smalley, Baines, Granite, Chalmers, Sheridan, Lees (Roberts 73), Pritchard (Mooney 66), Deane Smalley (Johnson 60), Tomsett, Evangelinos. SNU: Platt, Ollerenshaw.
