Remain second in the league

Buckingham remain in second place in the League table and seem to be on course for a place in the play-offs next month.
As they move towards the finish line Buckingham produced another impressive performance and a good win against a Reading Abbey side that lay in mid-table before the game. In dry, sunny conditions Buckingham produced what was at times some thrilling attacking rugby, and scored seven tries against a side that never gave up.
Left winger Nick Sumner opened the scoring after just 5 minutes of play, once the Buckingham pack had showed their superiority in the first scrum of the game and full back Callum Gillie had joined the line at speed to create the overlap.
From the restart Jim Barker collected the ball and set off on a long rollocking run into the heart of the opposition territory, and quick ball from the resultant ruck produced an almost identical try for Sumner down the left hand side. After Gille had converted it seemed as if it would be a difficult afternoon for the visitors, but there followed a period of intensive rugby where both sides showed resilience and structure.
Then after 20 minutes Buckingham exerted pressure through centre Jamie Lee. After two scrums flanker Prime dropped over the try line from a ruck, for Gillie to convert. Buckingham managed to exploit their territorial advantage soon after and a penalty kick to the corner once again allowed the pack to show their dominance with a fine try claimed by hooker Tyler Green from the line out.
The last 10 minutes of the first half were the best for the visitors and a period of sustained pressure in the Buckingham half resulted in a try for Abbey blind side flanker on the stroke of half time to leave the score at 24-5 at the break.
Abbey continued their strong showing into the second half and looked for a while as if they could start to claw back their way into the game. From a tremendous driving maul and subsequent penalty for a high tackle Abbey found themselves metres from the Buckingham try line. The line out was poached allowing the home side to clear their lines and after that play Abbey never really threatened to sore again.
After an opportunity to kick from in front of the posts had been declined, Jim Barker justified the decision to run with the ball scoring from 22 metres out on he hour mark. Changes in the line up disrupted Buckingham but they settled well during the last quarter of the match to produce some flowing rugby and dominate the game.
First after a series of sweeping attacks led by the rampant Buckingham back row, fly half Jamie Hulston touched down. Then Ockendon and Prime combined again to unleash the Buckingham backs. Jamie Lee had n impressive game in the centre and he shrugged off four tackles down the right flank send winger Sumner in for his hat trick and to seal the win in front of the crowd of jubilant home supporters.
