DUNVANT HOST LOCAL RIVALS LLANGENNECH THIS SATURDAY (6th Apr)

By Roger Knight

5th placed Dunvant host 2nd placed Llangennech this weekend with the score 1 each so far this season

Dunvant’s home league game in September was postponed but we did travel to Bank Road for the 1st round of the WRU plate a week later which our visitors today won comfortably 22-5. In January with Dunvant 5th and Llangennech 2nd , Dunvant won 19-24 also at Bank Road. Today, Llangennech still hold 2nd place with 11 wins, 1 draw and 7 defeats in 19 games, 55 tries and 56 league points. 5th placed Dunvant are only 4 points behind Llangennech but also have 11 wins and 5 losses from 16 games,56 tries and 52 points so these two sides are very evenly matched. It should be another tight contest which also sees Llangennech scrum Half Gareth Davies who spent the last 3 seasons here at Broadacre up against his old team mates.
The big question this weekend is when or will Felinfoel become crowned League Champions for the 2nd successive season. In a re-adjusted table Foel now have 78 points from 21 games, an abandoned home game last January where they were winning 25-13 against Aberystwyth has this week been classified as a 4 point win by the WRU. That means Felinfoel with 1 game left to play could get to 83 points. Before today’s games, Dunvant can get to 82, Yr Hendy 75,Llangennech and Gorseinon 71, Aberystwyth 66, Whitland and Crymych 64 and Gowerton 60. That means that Dunvant are now the only team that could get above Felinfoel’s current tally of 78 and possibly claim the title. If Dunvant do not get at least 2 league points today Felinfoel will be crowned Champions. However, what a battle it is still going to be for 2nd place with 8 clubs still in contention for the runners up spot.
Elsewhere today Dunvant 2nds are away at Maesteg Quins in an Osprey’s West league game and Dunvant Youth, current leaders of the Osprey’s ‘C’ league are away at Cwm
