2nds Beat Marist in Double Header

By

Solid Performance Across the Board

Goole took the spoils and all 10 points in a no quarter given - full bodied - double header at Westfield Banks on Saturday. With no referee appointed for the game earlier in the season everything rested on this game.

Marist had brought a huge squad and everything pointed to a tough encounter and it did not disappoint as both teams went at it from the off.
Goole dominated the first 20 throwing the kitchen sink at Marist and were rewarded with a penalty try and then a great take from a well worked cross kick saw Jake Parkinson cross next to the posts, Harry Patrick converting for a 14-0 lead. At this point it was one way traffic. Goole then got involved in an arm wrestle with the visitors and stopped doing what had got them into good attacking positions allowing Marist to level the scores at 14-14 at half time.

Jake Parkinson added his second after the restart, Patrick adding the conversion before Den Marwood also crossed to make the score 26-14 with the home side regaining control and the upper hand. With three quick sin bins the game was in danger of imploding as Marist scored to take the score to 26–19 but were in danger of losing their heads as their discipline slipped. Marwood kicked a penalty following another high tackle before Richard Binns finished off a well worked move to score out wide and give Goole the deserved spoils.

Goole were really tested by a physical team but they came through the test with flying colours. They more than matched Marists physicality fighting fire with fire and their build up play in parts was as good as it has been all season.

Some notable performances all over the park. The pack were destructive going forward and defended as they have done all season. The half backs Patrick and Grimbleby combined well and good good to see both Richard Barrass and Denis Marwood, back after injury layoffs, the former having last played at HQ back in May 2017 in that famous win.

Rhys Almond had a standout game at 7 in the back row but Jack Smith just sneaked the MoM award with an all action display.
