Great day out for Under 18 girls
By Steve Fryer
Strong performances against top northern teams
Leek travelled to Littleborough and played 5 pool games. First up was Old Crocs. We dominated the 1st half but OC's defence held firm. Their scrum half out paced our defence to score the winning try. This was very harsh on the girls who deserved to win. We then played West Park and the girls played very negatively and lost 3-1. Some harsh words were exchanged and we then beat Leigh 4-1 will a much improved display. We then played the eventual winners Ellesmere Port and a strong display from our girls gave us a 1-1 draw. Lastly we played the hosts Littleborough and easily won 3-1 to qualify to play top of the group West Park. The coaches put a challenge to the girls and boy did they deliver. The lead changed hand many times to finish 2-2 with both teams going toe to toe. Extra time followed but no further score meant a drop goal shoot out which West Park won.
They girls have been off their game recently after a very hard season playing against older and more experienced opposition. They never used this as an excuse and have performed way above the coaches expectations. Finishing a such a high note has made the coaches and parents very proud of our super girls. Well done again.
