Spectators rejoice in reunion

We in Coffin Dodgers Corner have become professional spectators. Whereas in our playing days we had the opportunity to influence results and lots of opportunities to get rid of frustrations the following week, now we are condemned to stand and watch and suffer the pains of defeats and in our own way rejoice the victories with a beer and port. We yearn to make a difference by the simple act of supporting, by encouraging, exhorting, shouting, cheering, anything. We want to help. We are living vicariously through the efforts of “our team” and as we grow older we have no other options.

Our glory days are well behind us but we still derive enormous pleasure from simply being part of the club. The relationship we enjoy with the current players is tremendous and there does seem to be affection and respect shown all round. Our old mates that shared our early days would be surprised at the club we have become. So despite the impotence we feel as non-players now how glad we are that we are still able to take part in some small way.

Of course, not all of our old teammates are still here to enjoy it with us and as our ex-players reunion is on this week we shall raise a port or two in remembrance. If memory still serves well it was around this time of year that club stalwart John Nancollis passed. John had been a major driving force all around the club from being a player to becoming chairman and will fondly be remembered for developing “the best value for money event in the Northwich sporting social calendar the Northwich Festival of Sport.

Regale with us as we once again celebrate another successful season, join in memoriam selection and reminiscence with a beer donated by Henrietta Global Financial Services.

Steve Taylor makes his final bow as a competitive Northwich player, he’s a bit young but his time-served allows him into coffin dodgers corner (bring the port Steve).
