Wasps, Gloucester Rugby and Sale Sharks representatives have all been shortlisted for Premiership Rugby’s Community Volunteer of the Year award, supported by CVC.
Connie Perkins, who volunteers at least four hours a week through Wasps’ community programmes whilst juggling her GCSE revision commitments, will be heading to the Premiership Rugby Parliamentary Community Awards 2019 at the House of Commons on Wednesday 17 July.
Connie is one of three volunteers up for the gong, that recognises those who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the community through their passion, determination and dedication.
Connie supports mixed ability touch rugby sessions at Old Leamingtonians RFC and helps to host a sports club for people with Down’s Syndrome. She has been the driving force behind this project after being inspired by a family friend’s son who has the condition.
Every year hundreds of people up and down the country give their time to help run Premiership Rugby initiatives such as – but not limited to – HITZ, Project Rugby, Tackling Health and Move Like A Pro.
From going the extra mile to help youngsters in the local area, to getting more girls and women get into the game, these ground-breaking schemes all seek to help the community reach new heights both on and off the rugby pitch.
And Sarah Mortiboys, one of the judges on the panel, said: “The calibre of the volunteers was quite incredible. When you think that these people are delivering so many life-changing opportunities to other members of the community and they aren’t paid, it is very humbling.”
