CURT FORD pounced from close range to fire home a 91st minute winner against Little Common on Tuesday evening.

With the game looking like it was going to end all square after Little Common had equalised in the 40th minute, up popped the predatory Curt Ford (pictured) to secure Peacehaven’s first win and points of the season.

Peacehaven showed their intent as early as the tenth minute when Charlie Lambert hit the bar from close range. And five minutes later from a Haven short corner Lambert beat his man and crossed the ball which was blocked for another corner which was cleared.

On 17 minutes Josh Marshall found Brandon Kilula from a corner, but his effort was just wide.

With 26 minutes played Peacehaven went ahead through a penalty which was expertly put away by Jake Brocklebank to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

With just over half an hour played Mikey Lloyd was next to show with a shot from the edge of the box which forced the home ‘keeper into making a brilliant save. From the resulting corner, defender Craig Hall saw his effort go wide.

And then on 40 minutes Little Common were level after a free kick was sent in. It was headed back across the box for Jamie Crone to score.

Half time: Little Common 1, Peacehaven & Telscombe 1.

Little Common started the second period brightly and Haven were finding it difficult to settle. But with ten minutes played in the second period Peacehaven were back in the groove. On 64 minutes Marshall and Lloyd combined in a fabulous sweeping move but it came to nothing.

One minute later Marshall went close with a brilliant shot from the edge of the box.

The hosts pressed Peacehaven and nearly took the lead on 73 minutes but the attacker dragged his shot wide.

Haven were still looking for the winner, but on 84 minutes manager Mark Shutt took off striker Lambert and introduced defender David Amarteofio to preserve a well-deserved point.

That’s how it looked like it would end up until Curt Ford put his mark on the game and claimed all three points for Peacehaven.

Final score: Little Common 1, Peacehaven & Telscombe 2.

Peacehaven & Telscombe: Secka, Le Grange, Bant, Brocklebank, Hall, Lambert, Cheeseman, Ford, Marshall, Lloyd, Kilula. Subs: Olulode, Waller, Kinkene, Amarteofio, Grimble.
