Welcome to 'All' Age Grade Web Page for Sheffield RUFC

Season 2023/24
This page contains all information and contact details for Age Grade Rugby otherwise known as Mini and Juniors for U7s to U18s, Boys and Girls, at Sheffield Rugby Union Football Club, based at Abbeydale Sports Club, Sheffield.

Minis and Juniors play on Sundays at Abbeydale and a number of squads also hold Training Sessions midweek, further details can be found on the specific Age Grade webpage located under TEAMS of the club website. If you are considering introducing your son or daughter to rugby then look no further than Abbeydale on Sundays, you and your child will be made very welcome, with the main priority being for your child to have fun, keeping them active and healthy in a controlled environment. The Rugby Football Union has an extensive coaching structure starting with Non-Contact TAG at U7s progressing each year with introduction of new elements of play through to U17s & U18s COLTS. Girls start playing all girls from U12 Age grade. Please see the Girls U12s to U18s page of our website for more information. At U17s boy players become eligible for senior rugby provided they meet certain criteria. From U14s boy players start to be assessed and potentially nominated to Yorkshire RFU for the England Rugby Development Player Programme (ERDPP) which is the pathway into representative level, professional status and ENGLAND! For the majority, playing Rugby at Abbeydale is about having fun playing with existing friends and making new friends at the club. More information about the structure of Age Grade can be found HERE

At Age 14 players can start to obtain coaching qualifications through the RFU. This is very much encouraged at Sheffield RUFC and the club will fully fund the cost of any courses. Refereeing is also a pathway that can be followed. Rugby Union is an industry which could provide employment to an adult who started playing Tag at U7 so there are lots of good reasons to be involved at our club from a young age.
