Stamford came away from Northeast Lincolnshire disappointed despite having had the lions-share of chances. Despite this some excellent goal-line clearances and goalkeeping stopped the Daniels putting the ball in the net and this cost the visitors in the end. Three minutes in and the away side were looking the brighter as Eliot Putman’s cross found Jordan Smith but his header went just wide. Four minutes later and a Rob Morgan shot was pushed around the post for a corner, which fell to Sam Hill but he could only shoot over.
Three minutes later and Cleethorpes tested the Daniel’s keeper Max Smith-Varnam as he was forced to tip over a Peter Winn corner. Six minutes later and Jordan Smith was to be denied by a great save from Cleethorpes keeper Liam Higton. He met Eliot Putman’s cross and forced Higton to push his powerful shot onto the bar. The Stamford number one was soon forced into a great save of his own pushing a powerful Jack Richardson volley wide.
A few minutes later a speculative effort from Eliot Putman went well over the bar. Five minutes later and Liam Adams was played in on goal, he tried to square the ball to the onrushing Jordan Smith but the ball was cleared out of play before it reached him. From the resulting corner Sam Hill has his effort cleared off the line before Rob Morgan’s shot was blocked. Ten minutes before the break and a Henry Eze long ball played Liam Adams in on goal but he shot wide. Five minutes later Eliot Putman played a free-kick to Jake Duffy who had his shot blocked before Ben George blazed over a volley.
This brought the end to the first half where the only thing the visitors had done wrong was failing to hit the back of the net with the aid of some high-quality defending from the home side.
Three minutes after the break Jordan Smith was played in on goal, he crossed to Liam Adams who was prevented from scoring by some more excellent defending. Two minutes later and Liam Adams beat three men as he cut inside from the wing before shooting well wide. Five minutes later and Liam Adams would be thwarted again by some more great defending; A superb ball over the top from Jake Duffy found Jordan Smith who headed across goal to Liam Adams but the ball was somehow bundled away. Five minutes later the Daniels were to be punished for all their missed opportunities as a cross to the back-post saw Liam Davis loop a header into the back of the net.
With 20 minutes to play Graham Drury replaced Jordan Smith and Sam Hill with Sam Hollis and Jon Challinor and then five minutes later Liam Adams was replaced by Jak Jeys. The game then went quiet with the Daniels dominating possession but not being able to apply the finishing touch. The final chances of the game were to come in stoppage time when firstly the Cleethorpes goal-scorer Liam Davis volleyed well wide despite being completely unmarked. Then in the 94th minute a Jake Duffy volley went well over from a Jon Challinor throw in.
