Tamworth went into this fixture full of confidence after 3 wins in the first 3 outings in Mids 2 west north but also knowing that this recently relegated Wolverhampton side would probably prove there stiffest test to date.
So it proved to be as the sides locked horns and provided the watching supporters with a truly entertaining first half an hour which due to staunch defence from both sets of players remained scoreless.
The deadlock was broken on 34 mins by the visitors who outnumbered Tamworth on the wing and finished smartly. 0-5
The home side responded almost immediately with the forward pack trundling forward and after what seemed an age of seeing attempt after attempt repelled Leighton Norton finally forced his way over Callum Render slotted the conversion and Tamworth had a narrow 7-5 lead to take into the break.
The tie swung back in Wolverhampton’s favour just 8 mins into the second period as again they worked the ball wide and found room around the outside to score 7-10.
Once more Tamworth responded well and had the lead back 6 mins later as John Borthwick found a bit of space to run into and timed his pass to Rob Gemmell to perfection and the winger did the rest finishing well 12-10.
The visitors would score next crashing over to take a 3 point lead 12-15 and the game was still there for the taking by either side.
The sides traded penalty’s Render on target for Tamworth 15-18
As the clock ran down Borthwick capitalised on a Wolverhampton Knock on hacking the ball through and after a footrace was the first to dive onto the ball to score Render added the extras in what would prove to be the last action in this enthralling game in which both sides deserve great credit.
