Chapletown 1sts host Thirsk ladies 2nds.

By Mike Rushmere

A strong first half is all that was needed.

This week Thirsk 2nds travelled to Chapeltown, Sheffield. After being ahead in the home fixture but conceding in the last minute to only get a draw Thirsk were determined to come home with three points this time. Thirsk started the match with a strong lineup and were soon attacking the Chapeltown defence. Holly opened the scoring with one of her trademark reverse stick strikes. Chapeltown were trying to pull Thirsk out of shape by making runs wide but the defence of Oona, Molly and Lynne were not to be beaten with Oona on the left having a strong game throughout. Thirsk had numerous chances to increase their lead with Holly having some strong strikes at the Chapeltown goalkeeper but the forwards of Fern, Marnie and Hannah B were just unable to follow up on the rebounds. Thirsk did soon increase their lead from another powerful strike from the top of the D by Holly again leaving the keeper with no chance. Holly then completed her hat-trick when a shot at goal was heading into the net before being kicked by the defender giving Thirsk a penalty strike. The half time score was 3-0 to Thirsk.
In the second half Thirsk were determined to not concede a goal and let Chapeltown back into the game this time but the defence were mostly spectators. The forwards and midfield of Yaz, Naomi, Georgie and especially Grace tackling strongly and moving the ball, with pace, around the whole pitch. Numerous chances were created but Thirsk could not find the finishing touch. The Chapeltown keeper was being kept very busy with save after save and Marnie was also unlucky not to claim a goal after finding the net but the ball was judged to have crossed the back line earlier in the move. The final score was 3-0 to Thirsk and player of the match was awarded to Grace for her strong commanding play.
A special mention to Chelsea, as requested, for being alert in goal with the one kick she had to make in the second half!!
