Under 12's - Match center

Walsall RFC
Sutton Coldfield
Sun 30 Mar 11:00 - Friendly Full time

Another dominant performance!

By

Walsall Under 12s continue to impress this season as they recorded another win; this time over local rivals, Sutton Coldfield.

Despite the old trait of 'conceding a try in the first minute' showing its face again, there is a growing determination in this team that they won't let their heads drop when up against it. A fresh half-back pairing of George Allbright and Ben Pitt took no time at all to bed in and quick ball from the breakdown was soon finding its way to the back line. Ted Parsons at inside-centre often got over the gain line to give the forwards a target and, despite a shaky start, determined work from Daniel Gilbert, Cory Clarke-Selby and Joe Pearce secured possession in successive phases.

Ben Pitt got his team back into the game with a typical break-away try – the first of his hat-trick on the day – which clearly inspired the likes of Ben Stackhouse, James Marris and Kyle Austin who put everything into defence and impressed when they got their hands on the ball. Alex Garton, who seems intent on filling every position on the pitch this season, had a strong game at centre, gaining valuable metres in possession and getting the ball wide when needed.

Sutton did their best to get back in the game but were thwarted on each occasion by excellent cover defence from Jake Mooney and Jamie Mallaband, one tackle from the latter carrying several Sutton players into touch. Zak Somani secured the ball from the resulting line-out and Harry Bucknall was unlucky to be denied a score following a scorching run down the wing.

Matthew Howell celebrated his birthday by scoring a well-deserved try after driving through the defensive line again and again. James Rogers, determined to put one over several school-mates in the opposition line-up, crashed over near the end to secure the bragging rights.

As always, we're very grateful to the parents for their continued support but special thanks have to go to the mums for giving up their coffee and bacon sarnies in bed to bring their boys along. Not a bad way to start Mother's Day!
