Cracking game as honours are shared.

Hard fought point for the Wars against a good Nutfield side.

This gloomy day in February saw only our second game in 2013 and I was surprised I hadn't had a call saying it was too wet!! The pitch was actually in pretty good shape, mostly firm with a few soft bits down the sides, very much like Tim. We had a good side out and everyone was looking forward to a game of football at last.

We started the game the stronger of the 2 teams and created a host of really good chances, we were moving the ball well and Kev was getting in some good positions. On another day we could have been 3 or 4 up in the first 20 minutes. However we couldn't bag a goal and Nutfield came back at us very strongly, they had a strong attack and were quick down the flanks. The pitch was having an effect on our passing as we just didn't seem to be able to make our final pass count. Finally after 26 minutes we got the breakthrough we needed, Josh flew down the left and hit an absolute cracker with his left foot which the keeper had no chance of stopping. A brilliant goal and one we deserved. That livened Nutfield up and they continued to press, Ricky pulled off a couple great saves to keep us ahead. On the 33rd minute Daryl caught one of the Nutfield players, no great surprise there, and everything stopped!! I think everyone including the Nutfield guys were expecting a whistle and a foul but the ref allowed play to continue and Nutfield banged in the equaliser. So we went in at half time all equal but it had been a good first half of football.

The second half got under way and we knew it would be tough on the legs and the lungs, I was knackered just shouting on the line ! Both teams fought hard but the pitch was making things hard, the passing on both sides want great and controlling the ball was difficult. Nutfield continued to press our goal and we had some good opportunities to win it as well but the ball wouldn't go in in either end. The game ended in a draw which I think was a fair result, it had been a well fought game by both sides and played in great spirit. Ollie remains unbeaten as Captain which I'm sure he'll tell you about if your anywhere near him up the club!

Man of the match. 2 I think Ricky, really good display in goal and Josh, hard work and a cracking goal.
