Providing talented players from Sussex & Hampshire and the surrounding areas an opportunity to develop to the best of their abilities

We believe the Rugby Academy provides players from Sussex & Hampshire and the surrounding areas with an opportunity to develop to the best of their abilities within the academy and club structure.

Players attending the Academy can continue to play for their local club whilst representing the Academy in the British Colleges league on Wednesday afternoons.
Our aim is to first and foremost motivate and encourage young people to stay in education and provide pathways to higher education or career prospects while keeping one eye on the dream of progressing through the ranks to their own club first teams, or indeed, for many other opportunities in rugby.

The Rugby Academy aim to develop passionate young rugby players in all facts of the game, whilst enabling students to build a career in the sports industry. This is achieved by combining an outstanding rugby excellence programme with an unrivaled education, which provides a unique all round experience for those accepted onto the Academy.

Over the 2 year duration students will study for a BTEC Level 3 Diploma (Extended) in Sport Performance and Excellence, which is a fully-funded, full-time education course, delivered in partnership with SCL. Each year SCL educates and develops the skills of thousands of young adults through its 16-18 programmes. SCL has been successfully delivering vocational and academic sports-based qualifications for over ten years.
Successful completion of the educational programme will enable players to follow pathways into Higher Education at selected Universities and employment opportunities within the sport and leisure industry, including coaching placements.

All Academy players will receive daily training and coaching sessions which focus on the four core components of the player development model: technical, tactical, physical and mental skills development. Our desire is for the players to be the best they can be, whether that be progressing to their club’s 1st XV or with Championship or Premiership Clubs.

Players will represent the Rugby Academy Wednesday afternoons in the British Colleges league then will join their local clubs for matches at the weekend.

Places are offered based on achieving the required GCSE grades and playing ability. As such, all candidates will be invited to a playing trial by the club and asked to provide predicted exam grades. Places at the Academy will be offered to successful candidates after each trial until the availability within the current Academy squad is filled.
Trials are held between January and May with programmes starting each September.

COST AND VENUE
Both the rugby and educational elements of the Academy are fully funded and there is therefore no cost to join the programme. There will be a subsidised cost for purchasing training kit at the start of the season. Further details will be provided upon the player’s acceptance into the Rugby Academy.
The Academy offers a unique opportunity for players to train and study in an environment that will develop their academic and sporting performance. The Rugby development programme and academic studies will be based predominantly in Bognor Regis. Regularly served by 700 Bus routes and conveniently located on the A259
