BDHC 2s V Dereham 2s
By Graham Brewer
No goalie no cry.
A win to end what has been a tough season for the Dragons 2nd XI (or should we say 2nd 47 having used that many players this season?!) against a Dereham team who travelled with just 12 outfield players and no goalkeeper.
A tough opening saw the Dragons have to defend a glut of penalty corners (not sure what the collective noun for penalty corners is, possibly a ‘shambles’ of penalty corners? Answers on a postcard to the usual address please…), but our heroic back line somehow managed to keep the ball out (more often than not by giving away another penalty corner!) It was one such defensive penalty corner which saw Scott Downie launch a superb counter attack, finished off by Rafa Parker-Humby to give his team the lead. A 2nd from Parker-Humby soon followed, taking the home side into the half time break 2-0 up.
A 3rd for the Dragons saw them take control of the game but then Dereham bagged their first before the sides traded goals for 4-2, at which point 2 unanswered goals, including an Ollie Browne penalty corner strike, restored the Dragons’ 2 goal cushion and secured the 3 points in a 6-2 home win.
