BRUFC CHAIRMAN'S LETTER

June 2019

Dear Member,

Having just finished one of the most successful season’s in our 142 year history; with the 1st XV having being promoted to Level 5 Northern Premier, our highest ever position, and also winning the Lancashire Cup for the first time in our history; the 2nd XV winning their league for the second year in a row, playing some fantastic rugby, and the 3rd XV consolidating their league position, we are already preparing for an exciting season ahead.

Before we send out your membership renewal, I thought I would take the opportunity of letting you know that we have had to increase the membership subscriptions in a couple of areas for a variety of reasons These include:

• A 60% reduction by the RFU in their contribution to our travelling expenses at a time when our travel costs will increase, given our fixtures for the new season.
• The increased costs of match officials that we have to pay for.
• The rising costs of maintenance for both our wonderful pitches and our clubhouse facilities.
All of this is against a background where, despite our best efforts, we have still not recovered all our costs for the season just ended.

Therefore, Full membership will increase to £132 pa and Social Membership will increase to £84 pa. These numbers were agreed at the recent General Meeting. All other subscription levels will remain unchanged.

We really do appreciate the support of our membership which is vital to our survival and I hope that you still see the above as huge value for money especially when we have the likes of Rossendale, Harrogate, Ilkley, Kirkby Lonsdale and Lymm playing at Ramsgreave this year.

I am also sorry to say that after several years, Peter Clancy has reluctantly decided that, as a result of other commitments, he can no longer continue as Membership Secretary. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Peter for his considerable contribution over the years and I'm pleased to confirm that he has agreed to continue to look after International Tickets and the 100 Club. As we are still looking for a Membership Secretary, I will fulfil these duties in the short term.
