Chippenham Girls Host Kingswood RFC for the Last Game of the Season

Well deserved win after a very close game

A lovely sunny but cold day for the last scheduled game of the season, and a surprise fixture. Originally scheduled to play Gosford and Grove, who pulled out last minute, it was great to see Kingswood RFC step up and make the journey to play Chippenham at home in the true spirit of the game!

Chippenham kick off to Kingswood who have a couple of plays before Chippenham turn over the ball, Chipp keep moving forward and through the forwards come just short of the line. Chippenham win the 5m scrum and CRFCs newest player Katie (playing 8) drives over the line for her first try for CRFC (welcome to the team!).

Kingswood work their way up the pitch including a nice rolling maul a couple of rucks and get a nice try to level the score.

For the next 10 minutes Chippenham pile on the pressure and in 2 separate plays get so close to the line, but each time Kingswood defend hard and deny Chippenham the points, eventually getting back to the halfway line.
From a scrum on the halfway Chippenham get the ball out to the backs who pass it beautifully all the way out to the wing where Jess sprinted in putting the ball under the posts for her sister to convert.

Kingswood now attack strongly and despite a decent defence from Chippenham, a loose ball is gathered by Kingswood who, passing to the backs, run in a good try. Which is converted.

Chippenham once again dominate play through the forwards. A Ruck beyond the 22 sets up the next play, ball goes out to the right and Katie drives through several players before passing to Nadia who dodges and jinks her way under the posts for a great try.

That concludes the action from the first half.

Kingswood kick off the second half and after a couple of minutes of back and forth they run in a try off of a loose ball. Conversion made.

Chippenham strike straight back with a great drive off the back of a ruck and Nadia gets try number 4. Conversion missed

Straight from the restart Chippenham move up to the halfway line then, out of a ruck Oumou breaks through the defence and sprints to the line for a great try. Megan converts.

For the next few minutes play stays in the Chippenham half and Kingswood grind away to get another try. Conversion missed.

After the restart, Chippenham are looking dangerous with a run from the backs, however as it looks like Chippenham are breaking away and passing down the line, one of the Kingswood backs makes an intercept and runs in an easy try which once converted levels the score with 10 minutes to go!

Most of the next 10 minutes is dominated by Kingswood and Chippenham start to look a bit like a second half England team! But then Chippenham make a great break, ball out down the line makes ground, Katie comes out of the resulting ruck with the ball and makes great strides forward before being caught and getting the ball to Oumou, who got bundled into touch just shy of the line. Chippenham steal the lineout and Emily D drives over for the winning try! Conversion missed.

Big thanks to Kingswood, firstly for arranging to play at short notice and secondly for making it such a close, hard fought game. Well done to Chippenham for a thrilling game and a well deserved win. A great way to end the season. Also great to see Oumou score a beauty in her last home game for CRFC.
