Hungerford Town - Preview

By Liam Hickey

Hungerford Town make their first ever visit to Champion Hill tomorrow, with both sides desperate for the three points.

This match is vital for both sides, with The Hamlet looking to claim the three points that would almost certainly guarantee a second season in the National League South. However, Hungerford Town are even more in need of the points, currently sitting 5 points behind The Hamlet in 19th place.

They will be targeting the match as a must win, with the next two matches being against play off chasing Bath City at home, followed by a Bank Holiday visit to champions elect Torquay United. They will finish the season with a potential winner takes all match at home to East Thurrock United.

The Hamlet prevailed in the reverse fixture, overcoming a half time deficit to score twice through Nathan Green and Kingsley Eshun. The only previous meeting between the sides took place at Hungerford in the second round of the 1994-95 Isthmian League Cup , with Dulwich winning by six goals to nil.

Both sides have shown improved form over the last few weeks, with Hungerford arriving with only one defeat in the last six matches, albeit that was their last match at home to Slough Town. Prior to that, they had been unbeaten in five matches, including wins at Hampton and Billericay.

The Hamlet also seem to have turned the corner, with three wins in the last 6 game, but will be without the suspended Nyren Clunis for the next three games. The club is extremely disappointed to have seen the appeal against his dismissal at Chippenham Town rejected on the basis that the video evidence was not conclusive. Nyren had previously made 445 appearances for The Hamlet without ever being sent off.

Thegates open at Midday, and the match kicks off at 3pm. As usual, we recommend that fans arrive early to avoid the queues.
