The chaos engulfing Grays Athletic has proved beneficial to the Hamlet with the Blues’ skipper Kenny Beaney making the move from Aveley to Champion Hill during the week. Beaney began his career in the Dulwich Hamlet youth side before graduating to the first team in the late noughties. He had a short spell on loan at Wealdstone before moving to Fisher Athletic in 2007.
Originally signing with Grays Athletic in October 2008 he made only two appearances for the Essex club before being released. After a number of seasons with local rivals Thurrock, Beaney returned to Grays Athletic to become a mainstay of the Blue’s midfield and establishing himself as a firm fans’ favourite, scoring many crucial goals in his time. This season, as Blue’s Club Captain, he continued to foster the legend title bestowed on him by the Grays Athletic faithful as the Blue’s mounted an early challenge for the Premier Division title only to slip away as off-field problems haunted the club.
Ironically one of Kenny’s most crucial goals this season came at Champion Hill as his equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time ensured his Grays Athletic side escaped that afternoon with a draw.
