Dunfermline U15s beat Livingston

By

U15s show composure to overcome Livingston in difficult conditions.

A blustery autumn day saw Dunfermline U15s travel to Livingston.
The match started to a torrential downpour, during which handling was difficult, and with Dunfermline playing against the wind it was difficult to clear our lines. Dunfermline endured an opening period of pressure, but finally broke down the left wing through Gregor, who offloaded to Cameron who scored a good try in the corner against the run of play.
Livingston pressed again from the restart, and following a period of good defending, Livi managed to retain the ball through more effective rucking than ours, and then shifted the ball to the right and score in the corner despite the efforts of Cameron who looked to have taken the attacking winger into touch.
With the weather improving, Dunfermline managed to establish better field position and scored a brace of tries through Kian, Gregor kicking the conversions. Livi managed attacked mostly through their excellent no. 8, and out-muscled Dunfermline to score their second try.
Half Time: Livingston 12 - 19 Dunfermline

With the game in the balance, Dunfermline kicked the second half off with the strong wind at their backs. Livi kept the upper hand in the close-in battles, but some good tactical kicking and better ball retention from our backs kept us pinned in their half. The pressure resulted in tries, the pick of the bunch being a restart taken by Aidan, who made good yards going forward, pulling in defenders and passing the ball to Charlie, then to Duncan coming on at pace, and out to Logan K on the left wing. With just the full back to beat, Logan passed back inside to Duncan, who ran in unopposed. Further tries from Finlee (dispossessing a Livi player and running in himself), Kian (simple, well executed move from a scrum) and Duncan (interception and 70m run in) secured the result, and the match finished with a superb team effort to prevent Livingston scoring at the end, exemplified by Kian and Duncan driving their ball carrier from the try line back to the 22.
