A great day all around was had at the Llandarcy Academy for the Ospreys finals day on Saturday as Dunvant 2nds beat Tondu 2nds to round off the season with a 25-15 win
It was a nice way to finish off the season at the excellent facilities at Llandarcy Academy and hats off to the Ospreys for arranging a great day of rugby.
Dunvant 2nds fielded a squad that contained a number of up and coming youth players which is encouraging for next season. Tondu had most of the early possession and some slick handling in their back line produced the first try. Dunvant bounced back with some great ball retention which stretched the Tondu defense and saw Full Back Joe Woodward collect a bouncing ball to run over from the 22 for Dunvants first points. Dannie White slotted over the conversion and soon after added to the scoreline with a nicely stuck drop goal, 10-5 to Dunvant.
Dunvant's young front row dealt extremely well against a heavy and experienced Tondu pack and started to dominated the scrum as Tondu tired in the warm conditions. However is was Tondu that finished the half on top with a try and conversion bringing the score to 10-12.
Dunvant got back in front through another sweetly struck kick by Dannie White who slotted over a penalty. Then Dunvant moved further into the lead with a try from Flanker Cory Bennett. The game was sealed with the last play of the game through a try from Mark Loughlin powering over from 5 yards out. The final kick of the game came from the Captain on the day, Michael Mizzi, who was playing his final game for the 2nds. Mizzi slotted over the touchline conversion that finished the game and resulted in a 25-15 win for Dunvant.
The 1st and 2nd place play off between Bonymaen and Kenfig Hill was won on the last kick of the game by Bonymaen. Who slotted over a penalty kick to win.
