Freuchie Beaten is Season Opener

Falkland 237 for 6 in 40 overs
(M Surry 95, A Ferguson 53, R Wright 4 for 40)

Freuchie 91 all out in 27.1 overs
(G Chambers 3 for 16, C Watson 3 for 25).

Falkland Won by 146 runs.

The season began in glorious weather (possibly the best for a game in April that anyone could remember) and Scroggie Park looked in splendid condition for the start of the season. Captain Ryan Hepburn won the toss for Falkland and decided to bat.

The total of 237 was more than acceptable with Matt Surry's 95 looking very good with fourteen 4s and one 6. Unfortunately he was trapped lbw only 5 short of what would have been a deserved century. He was well supported with 53 from Adam Ferguson. The pick of the bowlers was Robbie Wright with 4 for 40 which would have been a great deal better but for his last over.

In reply Freuchie never really got going, and Falkland took early wickets and remained on top, although they are bound to be concerned about conceding 24 wides, which is a very high proportion of a total of 91, and really must be addressed.

Both teams begin their respective League programmes at home on Saturday - Falkland to Arbroath in the Strathmore Union, and Freuchie to Edinburgh CC in the East of Scotland Championship.
