A great semi final this - and much closer than the score line suggests! To be fair Liversedge did have the ball after 10 minutes in the net when a cross was headed forward and across the 6 yard box at the far post by the Liversedge centre forward but his colleague strayed offside before bundling the ball into the net. Having watched the video though it is difficult to see how Liversedge could have scored from this phase of play without being offside. Disaster struck seconds later when Lady Luck deserted Garforth and their opponents opened the scoring. There looked to be little danger when a poor cross was dispatched into the Garforth penalty area. Both Liversedge forwards were tightly marked by defenders and the cross looked to be too high. However, a Liversedge forward srained to meet it, just got a fraction of the top of his head on it and the ball spun into Garforth's defender Micah Bleau before diverting into the net for a home goal. What shocking luck for Garforth! Garforth now had to play knowing that a second goal would make life very difficult for them and regrettably Liversedge doubled their lead on 30 minutes when a loose Garforth throw - in high up the pitch resulted in Liversedge sending a 40 yard diagonal up the pitch and from the resulting cross the Liversedge forward scored with a nice glancing header. That was the cue for Garforth to start dominating the goal and credit to Colley, Devlin and Coulthard for dominating the midfield. As the game wore on Liversedge started to look both tired and panicky and a goal for them on 70 minutes, virtually out of the blue and against the run of play for all intents and purposes, ended the match as a contest. There was still time for Garforth to score the goal of the match - a brilliant goal passed out from keeper Williams to DevLIN who passed to Gibrill-Keating, back to Devlin, to Coulthard, to Fletcher, to Hartley, to Colley and Colley side foots it into the goal. What a goal passed 80 yards of the pitch into their goal without a Liversedge player touching it!
