Glossop lose heavily

A very tough day at the office for Glossop ended with an argument breaking out on the pitch between Russ Saunders and Moussa Samassa. Signs that they really care for sure but that’s what can happen when the going gets tough. Now more than ever, the boys in blue need to stick together.
The first half capitulation started when Glossop conceded a goal after a swift break down field following their own corner. A very disappointing way to go behind, especially as Glossop tried to start on the front foot. It was Colwyn Bay’s Craig Pritchard who did the damage on 6 minutes.
Pritchard grabbed his second soon after and Colwyn Bay were controlling things all over the pitch, their touch seemingly much more assured than that of the hosts.
3 - 0 came on 16 minutes and Glossop didn’t know what had hit them, this time a goal mouth scramble their undoing.
Just when it looked as though the hosts had steadied the ship, they were denied a penalty appeal only to concede a penalty at the other end just a few minutes later. Colwyn Bay captain Tom McCready converted calmly to make it 4 - 0 and end any hopes of a comeback.
The second half was delayed slightly due to an injury to the linesman, but this extra recovery time did little else for the home side other than extend the misery.
The second half was fairly uneventful. A lengthy stoppage saw a Colwyn Bay player stretchered off and taken to hospital. Fingers crossed it’s not as bad as it looked.
On the 85th minute, Colwyn Bay’s Lass Mendes delivered a cross cum shot from the left hand side which caught Russ Saunders out. The keeper lost the flight of the ball and could only help it on its way into his net.
5 - 0 and 8 minutes of time added on really added insult to injury time for the Hillmen.
A loyal few applauded the home side off, but Glossop need to regroup quickly now, ahead of a vital 6 pointer away to Kendal next week. Kendal won away at Market Drayton today and so their spirits will be high going into a game that could count for so much at the end of the season.
Glossop need to get their heads together and make sure they’re all pulling in the same direction for the next few games. It only takes a win to lift a team. Next week could give Glossop the shot in the arm they need.
