Youth rugby alive and well at Harrow RFC!

By Neil MacDonald

Great rugby on show as 4 of Harrow's youth teams play league matches on Sunday.

4 of our 5 youth teams were playing league games at home this Sunday and, whilst not all the results matched England v France, there was some great rugby on display and terrific efforts from all the Harrow lads.

First up were the U15s v Twickenham with an early kick off. Twickenham went ahead quickly but the Harrow lads dug deep and turned on some great rugby to pull level. It was only the latter stages of the game that tackles were missed and Twickenham were allowed to pull away. Final score Harrow 15 Twickenham 34.

In the following U14 game Harrow, inspired by their session with messrs Strettle, Goode and Burger in midweek, ran out clear winners v London Scottish 26-15. Some great rugby on show from this side that is improving rapidly.

Our U16s hosted top-of-the-table Harpenden who would secure their position at the the head of the league with a win. The Harrow lads were determined to show what they could do and put in a fantastic defensive performance that not only held Harpenden out but gave them the platform to launch a few sharp attacks that saw them win this high quality game 15-5. The Harrow U16 forwards were superb and in difficult conditions this was a classy example of aggressive forward play and game management.

Our Colts were up against a skilled and big Finchley U18 side and after going in at half time two scores behind, they promptly came out and scrored twice to pull themselves back in to the game with an all-round team effort. That wasn't enough, however, and some indiscipline allowed Finchley to take the upper hand and they scored twice more to run out winners Harrow 26 - Finchley 34.

One of the Finchley lads suffered a suspected broken ankle which held the game up and everyone at Harrow wishes him well and a fast recovery.

Well done to all the players, coaches and volunteers who put on great rugby, warm hospitality and a superb club effort all round! Thank you!
